Attention all Avenza Maps users:

AEM has been partnered with Avenza Maps since 2021, and through this partnership we have been able to provide customers hundreds of high-quality maps compatible with modern mobile devices. Unfortunately, Avenza is currently restructuring their business following their acquisition by Blue Marble Geographics a few months ago. More information about the acquisition is available via this press release.

On April 9, 2026 AEM was informed that Avenza Maps would no longer be accepting new content to the Map Store, effective immediately. This means that AEM is not currently able to upload new maps (or update existing maps available via the Map Store). Unfortunately, the timing is really bad for AEM customers. We were less than a week away from releasing several maps that we know people have been dying to see: another big chunk of Athapap, Reed Lake (now 100% complete), more of Tobin Lake, and the often requested Eagle Nest Lake on the Winnipeg River.

We hope that once Avenza and Blue Marble take some time to optimize their workflows and increase efficiency, we will again be able to publish new maps via the Map Store. However, for the time being there is nothing we can do. On a positive note, Blue Marble senior management has relayed to us that the Avenza Maps app will continue to function in terms of existing content, customer support, etc. As such, existing AEM maps will remain available in the Avenza Map Store.

In summary, the good news is that customers can still purchase and access all existing maps (as of April 9, 2026) via the Avenza Map Store. The bad news is that no new AEM content (including updates to existing maps) will be available via the Avenza Maps store for the foreseeable future.

We suspect that this development will prompt some questions from our customers, but there is unfortunately very little else that we can say right now. Avenza has been a great partner over the years, and we wish the staff involved all the best as the company restructures.

Note: the 2026 versions of our digital map chips compatible exclusively with modern Lowrance sonars are currently scheduled for May or June release. The plan is to integrate all the new mapped content from AEM’s 2025 survey season including the aforementioned lakes as well as many others into the appropriate regional chips (e.g. Saskatchewan 2026, Northwest Ontario 2026, Eastern Manitoba 2026, etc.). Pricing for new chips and upgrades have yet to be determined.
